Sustainability at IVY Berlin

At IVY Berlin, we believe fashion should be made with intention. Our approach to sustainability starts with how we produce: everything is handmade to order in Berlin, meaning we only make what is actually needed. We do not produce large quantities of excess stock that may eventually be discounted, left unsold or thrown away.

We also make a conscious effort to minimize waste throughout our production process. Whenever possible, fabric scraps and leftover materials are given a second life within our own collections. Jacket offcuts can become patchwork corsets, mesh scraps are turned into crop tops and other smaller pieces, and leftover elastic from bikini production is reused as loops for attaching hardware to skirts.

But our responsibility does not end with our own production. Materials that we cannot use ourselves are passed on through our local creative network. We share fabric offcuts with Rumble, a local nonprofit that uses them for free sewing lessons with young people, as well as with independent designers whose work is sold through our Berlin retail store. We believe that sharing resources and supporting other small, local makers can help create a more circular fashion community.

Even the smallest scraps can have a purpose. Materials that are no longer suitable for clothing are passed on to Wooden Berlin, a local business that uses fabric scraps to apply oil to its handmade wooden furniture. This helps us keep materials in use for as long as possible, rather than sending them straight to waste.

To keep clothing out of the landfill we also offer repairs on any piece that you have loved to literal pieces. If your leggings rip after wearing them for three days straight at a festival, get in touch. If you don't wear mini dresses anymore and want your piece turned into a crop and skirt, get in touch. Or if you lost the chain attachment to your fav skirt, get in touch! We are happy to help.

We also keep our packaging simple. Online orders are packed using minimal paper and cardboard, and we avoid plastic packaging wherever possible.

For us, sustainability is not about being perfect. It is about constantly questioning how we work, reducing unnecessary waste and finding better ways to use the resources we already have. As IVY Berlin grows, we are committed to continuing to make our production more circular, local and thoughtful.
